The social justice symposium last week was a powerful event where you saw three speakers talk about their own experiences with genocide. The first two speakers were survivors of the holocaust and the last was a survivor of the genocide in Rwanda.

Or
2. At the end of the symposium Christian, the Rwandan genocide survivor, challenged us to extend our thinking to the context of our own lives and connected bullying to the themes of the symposium. Answer one of the following questions:
i) Do you agree with this connection and why?
ii) Can you find another connection to our own lives here in Creston and explain?
iii) Do you think bullying is a problem that needs to be dealt with at our school? Why?

The most powerful image for me was when the second speaker talked about the baby being thrown over the fence. The mother knew that once she got on the train she would never return, but getting out of line and throwing her baby over the fence to her waiting husband could have gotten her shot. She showed a lot of bravery in that moment.
